Milton Baptist Church was tendered as a design build package with the original designers retained as clients representatives. The building drawings were sufficiently advanced to obtain planning approval and with a specification were adequate to form the basis of a tender package.
Steel Coleman Davis were asked to act in a design capacity by C.S.Williams (building contractors) whose bid was accepted by the client.
The production of building drawings was not straightforward as the detailed construction was in effect limited by the planning consent. The built result had to look the same. However little attention had been paid to the integration of the structural frame within the building let alone building services. The Worship hall was intended to be fairfaced brickwork, but no allowance had been made for hiding steel columns and beams. A considerable effort was made to ensure the hall looked as the client thought it would.
Construction of the building was made more complicated as a result.
