The original victorian primary school has been previously extended by this practice. This development further enlarged the schools facilities by a further two classrooms enabling some conversion work within the original school to provide a new IT suite, associated rooms and a medical room.
The link here pictured enabled the classrooms to be built with the school in session . More importantly because the classrooms were a building in their own right, complete with their own toilets and plantroom , and by building the link after their completion and handover the classrooms were zero rated for VAT.
The link itself is considered a covered external space and as such is unheated. . Careful detailing of the links construction maximises the sense of light and openness in the corridor. The use of timber rafters and direct glazing techniques minimises the need for additional timber framing.
