The original laboratories had become outdated. The old furniture and design was restrictive in its lack of flexibility whilst the interior design only served to create a confused and busy visual impression. The dark painted beams contrasted painfully with the bare fluorescent light fittings. The students attention span and concentration was limited.
In keeping with the schools newly obtained science status we were commissioned to redesign and equip two existing laboratories. By limiting the fixed benches to the perimeter it was possible to create a very flexible layout to suit the teachers needs. The more visually restful colour scheme draws pupils attention to the teacher and the subject in hand. By the use of carefully selected light fittings a suitable and elegant yet energy efficient whole room illumination has been achieved.
The introduction of interactive white boards, internet links and video playback facilities completed the transformation.
