Wellington United Reformed Church is a mid Victorian flint faced building, listed Grade II adjacent to Wellington High Street. At right angles to the church, and linked to it at the rear was a derelict Sunday School building facing the High Street across a lawned former burial ground. The Church and the Sunday School formed an important part of the Wellington street scene.
The derelict School room was demolished and replaced with a new 3 storey 'T' shaped block of 9 two bedroom flats (for occupation by people over the age of 55). The new building was designed to reflect the massing and appearance of the former School room and was partly faced with salvaged flint from the demolitions, and partly rendered. Stone window surrounds to the front elevation have been salvaged and reused or made to match the existing.
The Church's kitchen and toilet accommodation (in a poor condition) were also replaced with a new single storey building at the rear of the Church. The approved sketch design was novated to the Main Contractor and incorporated in a 'Design build' contract on behalf of the Housing Association and the Church.
