Waterside Medical Centre. Gosport, Hampshire

A local developer had with the aid of Architects Norman and Dawbarn of London gained planning permission on a water front site in Gosport for a large residential development, a doctors surgery and a marine warehouse/office building.

The developer had worked successfully with Wrencon( a firm of Taunton building contractors) to build the warehouse and offices and whilst the residential development would be taken over by a national house builder he wanted To use Wrencon again. We were approached by Wrencon to take over the design of the surgery as we were local to them, had worked successfully with them in the past and had the relevant experience.

We were asked to take the planning drawings and make the building buildable both in a practical and an economic sense The task proved to be quite challenging as we were limited not only by the planning permission but by the size of the building as this was the basis of the agreed funding.

A number of anomalies had to be resolved in order to gain building regulation approval and the buildings structure and construction had to be rationalised to be economic without loss of design integrity, The surgery has 9 consulting rooms in total on two floors, with 5 triage rooms and associated facilities for nurses healthcare workers and other admin staff.
