West Somerset Railway. Somerset

The refurbishment of Minehead railway station platform canopy (listed Grade II structure) was undertaken during the West Somerset Railway Company's winter period of 2004/5. The work comprised the removal of the old roof sheeting which was in a poor condition and its replacement with a new corrugated dual coloured galvanised sheet. The bottom section of each of the canopy lattice columns were cut off and new bases formed. Steel work details were fabricated to match the early C19th. style with featured rivet heads. The rusting steel eaves beams, cast iron gutters and downpipes were also removed and replaced. The entire structure was repainted in the Railway Company's operational colours.

The platform lighting system was renewed with the old 'gas' lamps refurbished and a trunking system installed to accommodate the new wiring and the Railway Company's low voltage operating system wiring.
